Highcliffe armed robbery

Police have warned the public not to approach a man suspected of robbing a Dorset post office at gunpoint.

CCTV footage has been released following the robbery in Lymington Road, Highcliffe, near Christchurch on Tuesday.

No-one was injured in the incident around 09:30 GMT and police believe the man was in possession of a firearm.

He was seen heading towards Christchurch following the robbery.

Police are particularly keen to speak to a female witness who entered the shop before the man left.

Det Con Kate Dennis said: "This was an extremely distressing incident and the victims are understandably shocked as a result of this man's actions."

This man is white, aged in his late 30s to 40s, approximately 6ft tall and of a medium build.

He was wearing a black anorak, black beanie hat with a grey stripe, glasses and a black scarf over his face.

Police said they were "keeping an open mind" as to whether it was linked to two armed robberies and a kidnapping earlier this month in Lymington and Brockenhurst. They originally said the incidents were not linked.
